HOW TO EDIT YOUR FILES
Follow these simple steps and you’ll be editing your templates with ease in no time! In each template, the areas highlighted in blue are editable. Please note that the text boxes cannot be moved or made larger or smaller. If you need to fit more text try making the text smaller or adjust the line spacing (explained below).
This is the most important step. The templates MUST be opened and edited on a LAPTOP OR DESKTOP COMPUTER (not a tablet or mobile device) in ADOBE ACROBAT READER only. This is a free program available for download here. Many computers will use a preview program as the default to open files which will cause formatting issues. To avoid this either open Acrobat Reader and go to file > open and select the file or or right click on the file and select open with > Adobe Reader.
Highlight/select the text you want to edit and type in your replacement text. To edit the size, font or colour, select the text and press CMD + E (MAC) or CTRL + E (WINDOWS). This will bring up a text properties box. Your text must be selected in order to change any of the properties.
If you find you need a little more or less space between lines of text you can adjust the line spacing by highlighting the desired text and in the properties box click More > Paragraph > Line Spacing > Exactly then enter an amount below where it says AT: Points. If it won’t let you enter an amount, it is most likely because your text has exceeded the area.
Be sure to save your file as you go. Saving it as a new file is recommended so that you will still have the original in case you need it. It will always be accessible to you in your Etsy account. You can edit, save and print your template as many times as you need.
HOW TO PRINT YOUR FILES
You’ve finished editing your templates and now you’re ready to print! For the best results we recommend printing at home or with your local copy shop.
PRINTING AT HOME
This is the most affordable option and our templates are set up to make it really easy. First you need to purchase the card stock you would like to print on and make sure your printer can handle it. Not all printers can handle heavier weight papers. A 90-110lb matte card stock is recommended.
● First you need to make sure you’re printing at a scale of 100%. In the print dialogue box make sure Actual Size is selected (see image), NOT Fit.
● Make sure you print in high quality, not on a Draft setting. Also, do not check the Save ink/Toner box.
● Do a test print to make sure everything is looking how you like.
● Select only the pages you want to print. In case of invitations that have a matching back design you may want to print page 1 first, then flip them to print page 2 on the reverse side.
PRINTING AT A COPY SHOP
Also an affordable option, this will most likely be better quality than your home printer. Shops include Staples, Office Max and Fed Ex/Kinko’s.Their paper choices may be limited so you may want to supply your own paper.
● Make sure they open the file in Adobe Acrobat Reader
● They may offer trimming, if they don’t, check out our tutorial here on how to trim your stationery.
If you have any further questions about printing, please check our FAQ section or contact us and we will be happy to help you out!
HOW TO TRIM YOUR FILES
Your files are printed now it’s time to trim them! All our templates include crop marks (also known as trim marks) to allow for easy trimming. These marks are there to help you trim your stationery to the correct size.
We recommend you use either an X-ACTO knife with a cutting mat or a paper trimmer. You can use scissors but they will not give you the best result and will be more time consuming.
X-ACTO KNIFE METHOD
For this method you will need an X-Acto knife, ruler and cutting mat. Please make sure your blade is sharp and a ruler with a non-slip grip on the bottom is recommended. The cutting mat is to protect your surface area.
Place your stationery on the cutting surface. Line up a ruler with each set of crop marks and slide the knife along the edge of the ruler to make your cuts. Watch that your fingers don’t go over the edge of the ruler! DO NOT cut to the edge of the paper so you can keep all the crop marks in place until all cuts have been made.
PAPER TRIMMER METHOD
A side blade paper trimmer is recommended.
You will need to line your crop marks up in the cutting area of your trimmer. Slide the blade from one crop mark to the next without going to the edge of the paper. This will keep all the crop marks in place until all cuts have been made.
